  In family ownership since 1874, the winery was taken over by Yves Gras in 1985. Yves soon started organic farming in its vineyards in Gigondas, a few years later also in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In the cellar, he keeps no more barriques but large wooden tanks and terracotta amphoras to emphasize the character of the terroir.

  You don’t need to travel to New York to meet good wine and rappers. Both can actually be found in the Minervois. It didn’t take more than an encounter between the winemaker Pierre and the rapper Toan to find the name and the history for the new Cuvee Domaine Pierre Cros.

  Black like a real Cahors, some purple hints are to be seen on the rim of the glass. It has an intense, quite complex nose full of black currants and other ripe fruit, with pleasant herbal notes and spices. Extremely juicy, it reminds of a fresh coulis of red and black fruits in the mouth. And while the wine softly fondles our cheeks, a zesty freshness underlines the precision of the crispy tannins, giving a lot of length to the wine.

  How far seems the times when Rhône wines rolled over your tongue with the weight of a tractor. Though powerful and full-bodied wines don’t bother me at all, I just can resist to elegance and finesse in wine. And that despite of all the great memories of the 90s, when we drank oversized bodybuilder wines while listening as loud as possible to the Cranberries, Daft Punk or Nirvana.

  The vintage 2013 in France can be considered as extraordinary, even if the annual balance sheet of Météo France disagrees with that.
  Everyone still remembers the hailstorms moving around the country, as well as the unusually cool and wet spring.
