Château du Cèdre, in the heart of the Cahors appellation, must be regarded as the region’s leading light; the refined Malbec grape reaches new heights here. Deep, dark and elegant, Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe’s wines reveal the superb terroir of the estate.
The estate is organic and certification by Ecocert has been asked in 2009. No herbicides are used, there is no spraying against rot and only organic compost is used. Sustainable viticulture and organic farming since 1988.
In the following video, you may follow Pascal Verhaeghe into the vineyards of Château du Cèdre. His explanations, as well as the clicking sound of the calcareous rocks and pebble stones, perfectly illustrate the differences between the two great terroirs of Cahors.

Although he grew up in the family vineyards of Cahors, Pascal Verhaeghe only gets to wine making through diversion. As a young man, he is more interested in motorbikes, physics and maths. It all changes during a spontaneous visit to see a friend who is a wine grower in Burgundy. Having originally planned to stay for an hour or two, Pascal helps out with harvest and works several days in the vineyards and in the cellar. While driving his motorcycle back to Cahors, he decides to quit physics and get into wine.
